ARTICHOKE
‘Green Globe’ - Bold, deeply cut silvery-green basal leaves
create a fountain-like form reaching 3 to 5 feet high and wide.
Fleshy, unopened flower buds are edible. If not harvested,
6-inch bluish-purple, thistle-like flower heads follow -
excellent in dried arrangements. Herbaceous.
‘Carciofo Romanesco’ - This is a
classic artichoke variety that originated in the region around
Rome. It has large, round heads with nice purple color and
excellent flavor.
‘Violetto’ Purple’ Spineless
purple variety with deep purple coloring. Much sought after
export of Italy! Exceptional, flavorful and hardy for northern
growers! 85 days.
BEET
‘Bull’s Blood’ Grown primarily for striking dark red-purple
leaves that provide incredible contrast in salad mixes and also
have a tender, sweet flavor. Roots are also tasty and
tender when harvested early. Tolerant of heat and cool temps. 65
days.
BROCCOLI
‘Blue Wind’ Heads are medium sized, blue green with small,
attractive beads. Compared to Packman, Blue Wind is a day
earlier, much more attractive, a little easier to harvest and
more uniform.
‘Packman’ Plant produces good yields of very flavorful broccoli.
Widely adapted to different climates and soils, and you can grow
it all season. A favorite grown by home gardeners. 50 days. F1
‘Premium’ - Tall, upright plant produces bright blue-green domes
that are 12 in. across, with small beads. Holds tight buds
longer than most. Produces many side shoots after main harvest.
Its holding qualities make it great for freezing.
BRUSSELS SPROUTS
‘Jade Cross’ Plant produces heavy yields of solid 1 ½" brussels
sprouts. One of the best types of brussels sprouts to grow. 80
days. F1.
CABBAGE
‘All-Seasons Mix’ A great mix of the best cabbages, ranging in
color from silvery blue to light green to deep red.
‘Golden Acre’ This early round head cabbage is easily grown and
versatile in use. Heads are about 6 to 7 inches in diameter on
compact plants about a foot high. Its firm, medium green head is
excellent cooked or raw in stews and salads. 65 days.
‘Ruby Perfection’ Deep red color, heavy yielder. Medium
maturity. Very solid head, late bursting, highly productive.
Medium size plants, for winter harvest. 80 days.
‘Savory Savoy Express’ The compact plant can be grown at close
spacing about a foot apart in the garden. Small heads, about 1-1
½ pounds. Recommended for planting as a spring or fall crop and
it may be the earliest cabbage on the block. 55 days.
CAULIFLOWER
‘Early Dawn’ This super-early hybrid yields a 1-2 lb crown of
dense white curds, 6-8 inches across. Performs well when planted
in either spring or summer. 53 days.
‘Snow Crown’ One of the easiest to grow of all early cauliflower
varieties. Forms fully domed curds in heads 7-8 inches across,
weighing 1-2 lbs. 50-60 days.
CORN
‘Bodacious’ Reaching up to 7 feet tall, Bodacious features
impressive 8 inch long ears with rich, tender kernels.
Recommended for premium corn on the cob and freezing. 80-90
days.
‘Bojangles’ Early uniform and
vigorous cobs. Bojangles contains a naturally occurring
'sugar-enhanced' gene that makes the cobs extremely sweet and
tender. 74 days.
‘Delectable’ Plant produces good yields of 8" long small
kerneled bi-colored ears of corn. Plant Height: 6 ft tall. 80
days. F1.
‘Double Red Sweet’ This intensely red to purple corn is a
delicious early sweet corn, excellent for eating fresh as
corn-on-the-cob or can be dried to make traditional corn flour
or posole. High yielding variety on short purple stalks.
‘Earthtones’ Each ear is a rainbow
of soft color. Instead of the dark tones of Indian Corn, Earth
Tones is an Easter-hued variety with every ear a distinctively
unique mixture! These 8- to 10-inch ears are not for eating
fresh, though they may be ground for dent flour. Their main
purpose is decorative. 85 to 95 days.
‘Honey Select’ Synergistic hybrid yellow with delicious, tender
kernels. Plants are tall and sturdy, yielding a high percentage
of two cobs per plant. 79 days.
‘Miracle Sugar Enhanced’ Fast growing, long sweet cobs with good
tolerance to common rust; helps to keep plants healthy,
particularly in wet summers. 85-100 days.
‘Precocious’ The earliest yellow corn, up to 5 ½ feet tall,
plants yield 7 inch ears filled with sweet, buttery kernels that
are plump to the tip! Picks easily. Good cool-soil vigor
and superior flavor. 65-75 days.
‘Robust’ Popcorn Tremendous hybird vigor is apparent in its
rapid emergence, sturdy development and big 8 inch ears. Large
yellow kernels pop into big, tender flakes. 110 days.
‘Serendipity’ Produces tender, bicolor kernels with a perfect
balance between sugary sweet and traditional corn flavor. Stalks
reach up to 6 feet and ears are 8 inches long and well filled.

‘White Out’ Terrific early maturing white! Sturdy plants
produce delicious, pearly white corn. F1. 73 days.
‘Wampum’ Mini-Indian' A mini-ornamental. Similar to Carousel,
but about 2 weeks earlier. Ears are medium to very small 4-5"
long with diverse color. 85-90 days.
CUCUMBER
Burpless:
‘Burpless Hybrid’ In just 7 weeks
from sowing, you'll start harvesting beautiful cucumbers, 8 1/2
inches long by 1 1/2 inches wide, with a sweet, crispy flavor!
Vines are strong and vigorous. 48 to 50 days.
‘Burpless Bush’ Resistant to
disease. Produces, low-acid, slicing cucumbers on a space-saving
bush plant. The straight, 10-12" long, cylindrical fruit
are dark green, firm and nearly seedless when ready for harvest.

‘Suyo Long’ Plant produces excellent
yields of thin 15" cucumbers. Excellent for salads and bread and
butter pickles. This variety grows well in hot weather. 60 days.
‘Sweeter Yet’ An early hybrid burpless cucumber Sweeter Yet
produces 10-12 inch beautiful dark green, crisp fruit with a
pleasingly sweet flavor. Continual yields result from compact
semi-bush type plants. Disease tolerant. 45 days.
Cucumber-Slicing
Varieties:
‘Diva’ Plant produces good yields of non-bitter burpless and
seedless glossy dark green cucumbers. Will produce without
pollination! Excellent for salads or pickling. Disease
resistant. 58 days. F1
‘English Telegraph’ Superb flavor. 15”-18” long, straight, dark
green fruit. Will curl if not grown on stake or fence. This
variety is not bitter, features very few seeds and makes
excellent eating. 45 days.
‘Lemon’ These 3-4 foot semi-bush plants bear apple-shaped
cucumbers with lemon-colored skins. The flesh is very mild
and sweet. Best harvested when the size of limes. A favorite
among many cool season gardeners. 70 days.
‘Straight Eight’ This vigorous and productive plant yields dark
green, blunt ended, cylindrical, seven to eight inch long
fruits. A good slicing variety. 63 days.
Cucumber - Pickling
Varieties:
‘Bush Pickling’ Sets a huge supply of crisp 4-5” fruits. Bushy
vines grow just 2-3 ft. long. One of the best varieties for
making crisp whole dill pickles. 45 days.
‘Cool Breeze’ Cucumber is green and warted, 4-7” long with
fainter green striping near the blossom end. Five foot vines may
be trellised and will bear buckets of crunchy dark fruit all
summer. 45 days
‘Home Made Pickles’ The vigorous 5 foot vines are disease
resistant and yield armloads of solid, crisp cucumbers.
Can be harvested at 1 ½” for baby sweets and 5-6” for dills. 60
days.
EGGPLANT
‘Dusky’- Proven performer in shorter-season areas.
Disease-resistant, 24-30 inch tall bushes produce deep purple,
8-9” oval fruit that mature early for their size. 80 days.
‘Hansel’- A 2008 All-America Selection. Hansel is a unique,
early yielding, miniature variety. Less than three feet in
height, this is perfect for small gardens and containers. The
fruit is non-bitter and succulent and can grow up to 10”.
‘Hansel’ fruit contains very few seeds and grow in clusters of
3-6.
‘Ichiban’- Plant produces heavy yields of high quality 9" long
by 1 ½" wide, dark purple eggplants. It is so dark purple that
the eggplants are almost black in color. Very flavorful and
tender. Performs well even at cooler temperatures. 61 days. F1.
KALE
‘Dwarf Blue Scotch’- Early variety produces flavorful green
leaves. This variety better withstands colder weather than
other varieties. 65 days.
‘Nero di Toscana’ – 50 days. The very dark green leaves resemble
a palm tree and are 2-3” wide and 10” long. Extremely winter
hardy and becomes especially sweet after a freeze.
‘Redbor’ – 50 days. Magenta in
color. Grows 18-24” tall and is both beautiful and tasty, as
well as vigorous and cold hardy.
KOHLRABI
‘Kolibri’ purple – 60 days.
Purple-skinned with a cream interior, between 4-6 inches wide.
One of the best varieties for late season harvest.
LETTUCE
‘All Lettuce Mix’- A custom mixture of Parris Island, Rouge
D'Hiver, Red Salad Bowl, Royal Oak and Green Salad Bowl.
‘Australian Yellowleaf’- (loose) - 50 days – This large,
slow-bolting, loose leaf variety will add plenty of color to
salads with its bright yellow leaves. Tasty and tender.
‘Deertongue’ (bibb) - 55 Days, Heat
Resistant, Slow to bolt. Grown for its delicate, sweet flavor.
Of medium size, 7-9" loosely rosette-shaped heads have long,
somewhat triangular and pointed light green leaves that do
resemble the shape of a deer's tongue. Deer Tongue is also
very cold tolerant, making it a good reliable all-season lettuce
for most areas.
‘Fireball’ (butterhead) – 51 days. A large red lettuce with
creamy yellow interior. Tenderness and taste are
excellent. Mild flavor stays bitter-free longer.
Heat tolerance is good.
‘Freckles’ (‘Trout Back’) – 55 days. A dark green leaved romaine
splashed with wine-red ‘freckles’. Rich buttery flavor and heat
tolerant.
‘Lollo Rossa’ (bicolor leaf)- 48
days. One of the most deeply curled of the looseleaf lettuces;
pale frosty green interior with beautiful rose coloring at the
leaf margins. Heat-tolerant.
‘Optima Buttercrunch’ (bibb) – 54 days. Dark green, big framed
12-14" butterhead tolerant to heat. A high level of resistance
to downy mildew, bottom rot, and tipburn.
‘Outredgeous’ (red romaine) – 52
days. Thick, glossy, slightly ruffled leaves are bright red on
top and green on the underside. A superb upright cut salad
variety that forms a loose head at maturity.
‘Red Rumple’ (loose leaf) – 50 days. Dark plum-red leaves
are layered with tiny rumples. Plants spread to 12”, while
reaching a height of 5-6”.
‘Salinas’ (head) - 90 days. Plant produces good yields of medium
large dull green color head lettuce.
‘Verte Maraichere’ (romaine) – 65
days. Offers wonderful flavor, and a vibrant dark green color.
The romaine of choice for Mesclun producers.
‘Yugoslavian Red’ (butterhead) – 55 days. Extremely decorative,
this beautiful butterhead produces burgundy tinged leaves on
loose heads that can measure up to 12” across. Excellent mild
flavor.
MELONS
‘Angel’ - 80 days. F1. Produces an early, Mediterranean type
melon with very sweet flavor and white colored flesh. Excellent
yields of 3 lb size cantaloupes.
‘Earli-dew’ (honeydew) –80 days.
An early hybrid buff-to ivory-colored honeydew with sweet
yellow-green flesh that grows to a 5-6” diameter fruit weighing
2-3 lbs.
‘Fast Break’ (cantaloupe)- 69 days. One of the earliest
cantaloupes you can grow! The 5-6” diameter melons weigh 4-5 lbs
and have sweet, golden-yellow flesh.
‘Gallicum’ – 80 days. F1. A 2-2½ lb
melon of outstanding quality. It has an intense sweet aroma and
green flesh that is very flavorful. It tells when it is ripe by
turning yellowish on the outside.
‘Minnesota Midget’ (cantaloupe) – 60-75 days. Extra early
variety. The plants are compact with vines seldom over 3’ long.
The fruits are small, 5-6” in diameter, weighing thirteen ounces
to 1½ lbs, delicious flavor.
‘Passport’ (tropical) – 75 days. The 6-7 inch 3½ -4 lb.
fruit are round and well netted. The exotic lime-green
flesh is thick, juicy, and sweet.
‘Sugar Baby’(watermelon) - 75 days . Just as their name
suggests, these crisp, sweet dark red fleshed melons are sure to
please. Round melons 8" across average 10 pounds.
‘Sweetie’ (butterscotch) -- One of the sweetest melons we’ve
tasted, this hybrid is small and charentais-like.
PEPPERS
Sweet Bell Peppers:
‘Better Belle’ - 65 days. Blockier, thicker walled and earlier
than the original. Four-lobed peppers mature from green to
bright red. Vigorous variety maintains its large fruit size and
production throughout a long season. Tobacco mosaic virus
resistant.
‘Blushing Beauty’ – 72 days. F1. An elegantly colored, large
blocky bell pepper that changes from ivory to blush when mature.
Its compact palnt habit makes it an ideal container pepper.
‘California Wonder’ – 65 days. Produces 4-5 sweet bell peppers
that are typically 4-lobed, thick-walled and blocky. The large
rich green fruit turn red on the bush. A great choice for cool
growing conditions.
‘Chocolate Bell’ – 70-75 days. Dark, shiny green fruits ripen to
a rich chocolate brown. Excellent sweet flavor when fully
ripe.
‘Golden Star’ – 62 days. This heavy yielder of beautiful
golden-yellow four lobed, blocky fruits has an outstanding
sweet, mild flavor.
‘Gourmet Orange’- 85 days. F1 Plant produces good yields of
large deep bright orange sweet bell peppers. Peppers turn from
green to bright orange when mature. Disease Resistant.
‘Gypsy’ Yellow’ - 60 days. Plant produces heavy yields of 5"
long by 2" wide sweet bell peppers. Peppers turn from light
yellow to red when mature. Small plant is suitable for
containers. Does well in cool and hot regions. Disease
Resistant.
‘Red Beauty’ - 68 days. F1. Plant produces good yields of 4"
long by 4" wide sweet bell peppers. Peppers turn from green to
red when mature.
Excellent for salads, stuffing, gourmet dishes. Disease
Resistant.
‘Red Knight X3R’ – 65-70 days. An early maturing, blocky bell
pepper that matures from dark green to bright red and maintains
good quality at maturity. Produces three to four lobed, 4 x 4
inch fruit. Vigorous plant, very productive.
‘Super Heavyweight’ – 77 days. A super large and heavy
blocky bell pepper that measures 5” wide by 6” long. Color
ranges from a deep jade green to bright yellow gold at maturity.
Four lobed, very thick walled, sweet tasting, and very meaty.
Plants grow about 27” tall with good yield.
‘Yolo Wonder’ - 75-80 days. Peppers are green, turning red at
full maturity when the flavor sweetens considerably. They're
delicious raw or cooked.
Peppers - Sweet
Non-Bells:
‘Carmen’ -75 days. The compact 28" tall plants yield abundant
horn-shaped fruits. As they mature from green to red they get
even sweeter, making them an excellent choice for fresh salads
or cooked dishes.
‘Pasilla Bajio’ - 78 days.
Mild-sweet-hot, fruit is dark green, turning brown as it ripens.
This pepper is used in Mexican “mole” sauces, tasty.
‘Pimiento’- 73 days. A standard sweet variety for home and
market. Heart- shaped, smooth fruit 3½ inches by 2½ inches.
‘Cherry Pick’-75 days — Smooth skin and thick-meated. The
flesh is sweet and shaped like cherries but of good sized.
Nice for salads, canning, or pickling. Can be used in the
green stage or in the red, ripe stage.
‘Pasilla Bajio’ - 78 days.
Mild-sweet-hot, fruit is dark green, turning brown as it ripens.
This pepper is used in Mexican “mole” sauces, tasty. The plants
grow 2 to 3 feet tall, with branches beginning 5 to 6 inches
from the low stem so pods don't touch the ground.
‘Pimiento’ - 73 days. The Pimento is a variety of large, red,
heart-shaped
chili pepper that measures 3 to 4 inches long and 2 to 3
inches wide. The flesh of the pimento is sweet, succulent and
more aromatic than that of the red
bell pepper.
‘Tequila Sunrise’-70-80 days. Peppers ripen from green to golden
orange, reaching 6-6 ½ inches in length. Plants grow 15-16
inches tall and have a sweet, sharp flavor.
Peppers - Hot:
‘Anaheim’ Chili’ - 70 days. One of the finest fresh eating
chiles! The meaty 7" long pods are about 1" wide and a breeze to
peel and stuff. Early and productive, they will grow into
handsome chile-filled bushes averaging 24" tall. Drought
tolerant.
‘Greek Golden Pepperoncini’-65 days. This delicious Greek pepper
grows abundantly on a plant that matures to approximately 30
inches. A high-yeilding plant, it produces an abundance of these
fabulous, versatile peppers. The peppers are sweet and have a
very mild heat.
‘Jaloro’-75 days. Plant produces good yields of yellow Jalapeno
hot peppers. Peppers turn from yellow, to orange, and to red
when mature. Can be used at any color stage. Excellent for
making salsa or pickles. Disease Resistant.
‘Mariachi’-68 days. Superior fruit size, great yield along with
superior flavor. Cone shaped 3" 4" fruit, mildly "hot" chili
pepper. This thick walled pepper ripens from yellow to red but
is best harvested when it's yellow.
‘Pizza’ – 80 days. These 3-4” cone-shaped peppers on 14-18” tall
plants are most flavorful when green, and mildest when red.
Early and prolific.
‘Poblano/Ancho’ –80 days. Produces
high quality dark green to red, large-sized fruit averaging 5-6”
long. This mildly pungent pepper is excellent for drying, as
well as for rajas and rellenos.
‘Serrano del Sol’- 64 days. These 30” plants produce excellent
yields of rich dark green fruit that turn red late in the season
and measure 3 ½ long and ½” wide.
‘Super Cayenne III’- An improved version of the classic.
Vigorous, disease resistant plants set loads of super-hot 5-6
in. fruits with thin walls. Great for drying. 70 days.
‘Super Chile’- 50-70 days. Light Green/orange/red. Plant is
semi-compact and spreads out to 24” when mature, yielding up to
300 fruit.
‘Tam Jalapeno’- 65-70 days. This mildly pungent pepper matures
early and is just right for pickling. Semi-compact 22-24” plants
yield plenty of the cylindrical fruits, colored medium green to
red.
Peppers -
Blazing Hot:
‘Habanero’- 90-100 days. Compact 12”
plants yield thin walled peppers that start out green and ripen
to a pink-orange color. Peppers are extremely hot!
‘Holy Molé’ (2007 AAS) - 85 days. F1. A Pasilla pepper, it
is mildly hot, with a nutty, tangy flavor. These very
heavy-yielding plants grow armloads of 9" long by 1 ½" wide
chocolate brown hot peppers that turn from glossy dark green to
chocolate brown when mature. Plant height is 36" tall.
‘Jalapeno’- 85 days. Plant produces high yields of Jalapeno hot
peppers. Peppers are hot, have thick wall, and turn from green
to red when mature. Best when harvested when green.
Excellent for making salsa and pickling.
‘Mucho Nacho’- 75 days. Jumbo jalapeno that is not only longer
than the standard jalapeno, but also wider, heavier, and hotter.
Very vigorous plants are excellent producers of these 4” long
peppers. Beautiful fruit ripen to red upon full maturity.
‘Purple Jalapeno’ – 75 days. Peppers are larger than regular
jalapeno, but with the same thick walls and fiery heat and turn
dark purple before finally ripening to red. Great for salsa!
‘Thai Dragon’- 70 days. The 3.5” fruits are prolific
bearers often yielding up to 200 fruits. This variety gives
Habenero a run for its money!
PARSLEY
‘Plain’ – 75 days. Leaves are flat and rich flavored. Preferred
by cooks for its finer flavor.
‘Triple Curled’ – 75 days. Finely cut, deeply curled, for
garnishing and decoration.
PEAS
Shelling Peas:
‘Dakota’ - Compact, 22” vines with masses of 6-7” pods.
Terrific flavor. Developed specifically for canning and
freezing. Early maturation date, 105 days. Resistant to
powdery mildew.
‘Eclipse’ - A breakthrough in pea breeding. Its sugars convert
to starch very slowly, resulting in peas that remain sweeter
much longer than regular peas, either on or off the vine. Peas
are medium-small, very sweet and are contained in easy-to-shell,
3" pods. 36" vines can be grown with or without support.
‘Mr. Big’ - Sweet, flavorful shelling variety is good for fresh
eating or freezing. Profuse harvest of 4-5" pods. Plant in moist
well-drained soil in full sun. Vines grow 2-3 feet unsupported,
5-6 feet tall if supported.
‘Novella’ - Sturdy, prolific plants produce 3" pods with 6-7
sweet, tender peas per pod. Upright plants reach 2-3 feet tall,
may be grown without support. 60-65 days.
‘Oregon Pioneer’ - Terrific flavor. Great for eating fresh or
freezing. 30" plants with double pods, 7 to 8 medium peas.
‘Oregon Trail’ - Pods have 7-9 medium dark green peas with
great flavor. 30" plants. Great for freezing. Many double pods
per node.
Snow Peas:
‘Golden Sweet Edible’ - Two-toned purple flowers on six-foot
plants. Harvest when small. Tan, purple- flecked seeds can be
dried and added to soups. From India.
‘Oregon Giant’ - Very large, thick, sweet, tender, broad pods
up to 5" long. 30-36" tall plants. Pods remain sweet and tender
longer. Hybridized by Dr. Jim Baggett at OSU. Resistant to
mosaic and powdery mildew.
‘Oregon Sugar Pod II’ - Easily grown, non-climbing dwarf vines,
approx. 30" tall. Often grows double peas. Great in salads and
Asian dishes. Disease resistant.
Snap Peas:
‘Cascadia’ - Dark, green, thick,
juicy, very sweet. Fabulous snacks! 3-1/2 inch pods
on 32" vines. Bred in Northwest, this pea is disease-resistant.
‘Mega’ - Huge 4" light green pods, containing 6-7 peas per pod,
are juicy, crisp and sweet. Disease resistant. High yield in
cool and warm weather. 2-1/2-3 ft. plants.
‘Super Sugar Snap’ - Popular, plump pea with 3" long, dark
green pods. Very sweet, crunchy, and excellent cooked or raw.
6' tall. Vines require trellis. Resistant to powdery
mildew and other diseases.
‘Sugar Sprint’ - Incredibly sweet, tender, dwarf form of
stringless snap pea. 3" pods on 2-3 ft. vines
Highly disease resistant. 62 days.
‘Sugar Star’ - Good for intense picking and freezing. Compact
24-30" plants. Flavorful, dark green pods have wholesome flavor.
Disease and mildew resistant. New introduction. Comes on strong
with 2-1/2 to 3" string-less pods.
Petit Pois Peas:
‘Waverex’ - Perfect tiny peas on
little plants. Heavy yield, quality pea. Intense sweet
flavor. Semi-bushy, 15 to 20" plants. Great in French cuisine.
Container Dwarf Peas:
‘Dwarf Gray Sugar Snow’ - Red blossoms and subtly red-tinted
stems and leaves. Use as garnish or in salads. Sweet, tender,
small pods average 2" long.
‘Patio Wonder’ - Small to mid-size very bright green peas.
Early, compact, 16" sweet pea. 57 days.
‘Tom Thumb’ - Has an extreme dwarf growth habit, yet it
produces an abundance of full-sized pea pods in limited space.
Grows to 12 inches tall. It does not require staking like other
pea varieties.
Tendril Shelling Peas:
‘Sandy’ - Large, sweet, tender, uniform pods up to 4" long.
Vibrant and healthy 3 1/2- 4 foot tall plants. Produces lots of
tendrils which are delicious steamed or added to your favorite
Asian dish.
PERILLA (SHISO)
‘Green’ Shiso – 80-90 days. Used in Japanese cooking for sushi
and salads, and as a substitute for cumin. Has a cinnamon or
clove fragrance and flavor. Large, bushy, branched annual that
grows up to 3.5 feet tall.
‘Laciniata’ - A very attractive
foliage plant, bearing deeply cut, dark bronzy-purple leaves and
spikes of numerous, charming, pale violet flowers. When bruised,

Cucumis melo var. reticulates ‘Tigger’ – Vibrant yellow fruit
with brilliant fire-red zigzag stripes and fragrant, sweet white
flesh that gets sweeter when grown dry. Fruit weighs about
1 pound. Vigorous plants, heavy yield.
Cucumis sativus ‘Hmong Red’ cucumber - The fruits are white to
pale green, turning golden-orange as they ripen. A very
productive and tasty variety that stays mild even when large.
Cucumis sativus ‘Miniature White’ - 50-55 days – The short, 3
foot vines produce a heavy crop of white, sweet and crunchy,
mini cukes. So tender, there’s no peeling necessary.
For maximum flavor, pick when smaller than 3 inches.
Cucumis sativus L .var. sativus ‘Poona Kheera’ cucumber - 60
days. Cream/light green fruits, very delicious flesh, crisp,
juicy, sweet and mild. Fruit shaped like a potato, with skin
turning brown as they ripen. Vines produce early and with very
heavy yields. A wonderful heirloom from India.
Cucumis sativus var. sikkimensis ‘Sikkim’ cucumber - Fat, large
fruit can reach 15" long by 6" wide. The ripe fruit is a unique
rusty red color and is good eaten cooked or raw.
Cucumis maxima ‘La Estrella’ – Multi-colored tropical pumpkin
has gray, green and peach colored skin and deep orange flesh. In
northern climates, the vining plants produce 10 pound winter
squash with texture and flavor similar to a butternut.
Cucumis maxima ‘Marina di Chioggia’ - 100-105 days. An Italian
heirloom, both culinary and ornamental winter squash/pumpkin.
Vines bear round, 4- to 12-pound fruit with blistery, bubbled,
slate blue-green rind and orange flesh.
Cucumis maxima ‘Triamble’ - 105 days.Triangular Heirloom from
Australia. Excellent flavor and is a novelty for fall
decoration.
Cucumis moschata ‘Batwing’ – 90 days. Festive novelty
pumpkins in a mix of orange/black and bicolors. Vigorous
semi-bush plants produce loads of the 1-1 ½ pound fruits with
strong handle.
Cucumis moschata ‘Black Futsu’ - Rare, black Japanese squash,
the fruit is flattened, round and has heavy ribbing. The black
fruit will turn a rich chestnut color in storage. Flesh is
golden color and has the rich taste of hazelnuts. Fruits are 3-8
lbs. each and vines give huge yields.
Cucumis moschata ‘Tromboncino d’Albenga’ -95 to 110 days . An
Italian Heirloom Zucchini with enormous fruits up to 3 feet
long. Best picked when young for the finest flavor. It will turn
gourd like and may be used in ornamental decorations if left to
grow full-size.
Cucumis moschata ‘Thai Large Black’ pumpkin – Beautiful black
colored squash turn tan in storage. Fruits are flattened, ribbed
and have a textured skin. 10 pound fruits have thick sweet
yellow flesh. Heavy yields in hot, humid climates.
Cucumis pepo ‘Costata Romanesco’ – Distinctive Italian zucchini,
prominently ribbed. Clearly more starchy, nutty and
delicious tasting than other zucchini varieties. Serve raw or
cooked.
Cucumis pepo ‘Gadzukes’ zucchini squash – 55 days. Beautiful,
cool green fruits have paler, striped, raised ridges, so when
you slice them you get little star-shaped patties.
Cucumis pepo ‘Kakai’ – Eye catching 8-10 inch, bright orange
striped and speckled with dark green. Makes unique jack o’
lanterns and yields plump, hull less seeds.
Cucumis pepo ‘Yugoslavian Finger Fruit’ -90 days. Plant
produces good yields of creamy white squash. An heirloom variety
from Yugoslavia dating back to 1885. The squash can be eaten as
a summer squash when young or left to mature to be an
interesting conversation piece.
Lagenaria siceraria ‘Bule’ gourd - 100-125 days. Gourds are 6-8
inches tall and 5-6 inches across and are borne on very vigorous
vines. When first picked, the outer shell is green and turns
brown when dried.
Lagenaria siceraria ‘Dinosaur’ gourd - 125 days. Solid-green
fruits have curved necks and wing-like projections, perfect for
gourdcraft swans. Total length of 18-24" with an 8" bowl and
unique serpentine projections. Straight necks if grown on a
trellis.
Lagenaria siceraria ‘Kettle’ gourd – 110 days. Gourds are 20-30
inches across with ½ inch thick shell. Traditionally used
for storage container, water vessels and musical instruments.
Lagenaria lycopersicum Variegated Tomato -70-75 days.
Showy, indeterminate plants have heavy sets of round 2" fruits
on trusses of 5-6, good taste.
Raphanus caudatus ‘Rat-tailed Radish’ - 50 days. Native to South
Asia. Plants are literally covered with crisp fleshy edible
tapered seedpods that are thicker than a pencil and 4-6" long.
Pods should be gathered before fully grown. Pods can be eaten
raw, or good when chopped in salads.
Trichosanthes anguina ‘Polo’ snake gourd - 64 days. Long
twisting fruits resemble snakes. Tender and tasty, fruits may be
harvested from the time they are several inches long to 24”.
